Viral Video Exposes Alleged Deforestation in Danwas Forests

Viral Video Raises Questions Over Alleged Deforestation in Danwas, Khag

Danwas (Khag), Budgam:

A viral video shared on social media has brought alleged deforestation in Danwas under public scrutiny, raising serious concerns about forest protection and administrative oversight.

The video, uploaded by a local trekking hiker, shows visuals of cut tree stumps and wooden logs scattered across a forested stretch of Danwas. The area lies in Khag and serves as a connecting belt between Tangmarg and Tosamaidan, close to the Drung and Gogaldara area.

Danwas is known for its dense forest cover and ecological significance. The visuals have sparked concern among locals and environmental observers, who fear that unchecked tree cutting could lead to long-term environmental damage, including soil erosion, loss of wildlife habitat, and depletion of natural resources.

According to the hiker who recorded the footage, the video was shot during a recreational trek, and the condition of the forest prompted him to document and share the visuals in public interest.

However, official clarity is still awaited on whether the affected area falls under the jurisdiction of the Forest Department or the Wildlife Department. This lack of clarity has led to confusion over responsibility and delayed accountability.

So far, no official statement has been issued confirming whether the tree cutting shown in the video was authorised or illegal, or whether any inquiry has been initiated.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for clear jurisdiction, effective monitoring, and strict enforcement of forest protection laws in ecologically sensitive regions.
