DDMA Baramulla to Conduct Avalanche Preparedness Drill at Gulmarg
Baramulla: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Baramulla will conduct an Avalanche Disaster Preparedness Exercise at Gulmarg on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM as part of efforts to strengthen disaster management and emergency response mechanisms.
According to the public advisory issued by the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, the exercise is a mock drill aimed at enhancing preparedness and coordination among all stakeholders in the event of an avalanche. Sirens, movement of emergency vehicles, and deployment of response teams during the scheduled time will form part of the drill, and the general public has been advised not to panic.
Residents, tourists, hoteliers, shopkeepers, and visitors have been urged to cooperate with authorities, avoid spreading rumours, and follow all official instructions. Unnecessary movement in and around the identified exercise area is advised to be avoided during the drill.
The administration stated that the exercise is being conducted in the larger public interest to ensure better coordination and readiness during real disaster situations.
