The Public TV Sting Operation Exposes Illegal ₹50 Collection; FIR Lodged After GDA Officials Allegedly Assaulted During Crackdown
Gulmarg | February 24
A sting operation conducted by The Public TV exposing illegal collection of ₹50 from visitors in Gulmarg has led to administrative action, a raid by the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), and registration of an FIR after officials were allegedly assaulted during inspection.
The Public TV had recently highlighted how certain individuals were allegedly collecting money from tourists in the name of an “entry fee,” despite no such fee being officially authorised in Gulmarg.
Inspection Turns Violent
Following fresh complaints and media reports, a team of GDA officials visited the tourist resort on February 24 to verify the allegations and take necessary action.
According to the complaint lodged at Police Station Gulmarg, when officials reached the spot, they were confronted by a group of persons allegedly involved in the illegal collection. The officials claimed they were manhandled and assaulted during the inspection.
The complaint further states that the accused obstructed the officials from discharging their lawful duties and issued threats during the altercation.
FIR Registered Under BNS
Police have confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions related to:
Assault or use of criminal force against a public servant
Obstruction of a public servant in discharge of duty
Criminal intimidation
An investigation has been initiated, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved. Authorities stated that further legal action will follow as per law.
CEO Clarifies: No Entry Fee in Gulmarg
