SSP Orders Probe into Kunzer Police-Lawyer Clash; Gazetted Officer to Conduct Inquiry
Baramulla, June 12: In a significant development following the recent controversy involving police personnel and a local advocate at Police Station Kunzer, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla has ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident to ensure transparency and accountability.
According to an official statement, the incident stems from June 10, when a police team from Police Station Kunzer was executing a status quo order issued by the Judicial Magistrate (JMIC) Tangmarg in Dhobiwan village. Legal and preventive proceedings were initiated as per law during the operation.
Subsequently, an altercation allegedly took place inside Police Station Kunzer involving an advocate and police personnel, leading to allegations regarding the conduct of police officials.
Taking serious note of the concerns raised, SSP Baramulla has entrusted a Gazetted Officer with conducting a comprehensive inquiry into the entire sequence of events. The inquiry will examine the circumstances that led to the registration of the case, the conduct of all individuals involved, and allegations of misconduct or use of force.
Police said statements of all concerned parties will be recorded and available evidence thoroughly examined to establish the facts.
Reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law, District Police Baramulla stated that appropriate action will be taken if any lapse or misconduct by police personnel is established during the inquiry.
“The investigation into the registered case and the departmental inquiry will proceed independently on merits,” the statement said, while urging the public to avoid speculation and allow due legal process to take its course.
