Baramulla Police Bust Illegal Timber Smuggling Bid; Two Arrested in Pinjoora

Baramulla, June 20: In a significant crackdown on illegal timber smuggling and forest-related offences, Baramulla Police on Saturday recovered a consignment of illicit timber and arrested two persons allegedly involved in its preparation and transportation in Pinjoora area of Baramulla district.

According to a police spokesperson, acting on credible information regarding the concealment of illegally felled timber, a police team conducted a raid at the residence of one Mohammad Ameen Yatoo, a resident of Pinjoora.

During the search operation, police recovered and seized illicit timber measuring approximately 35 to 40 feet in aggregate length. The timber was seized on the spot in accordance with legal procedures.

Police said that during the operation, two individuals were found actively engaged in cutting and preparing the timber for transportation. Both were apprehended and taken into custody.

The arrested persons have been identified as Hamza Dar, son of Sanaullah Dar, and Rashid Rather, son of Kamal Rather, both residents of Pinjoora.

A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation has been initiated.

Police officials said efforts are underway to ascertain the source of the illicit timber and identify any other individuals involved in the alleged offence.

Baramulla Police reiterated its commitment to protecting forest resources and stated that strict legal action will continue against those involved in illegal felling, smuggling and transportation of timber.
