Gulmarg witnessed coordinated efforts by the civil administration and Jammu & Kashmir Police to restore traffic movement after massive congestion caused by sudden snowfall and slippery road conditions.
Leading the on-ground operation, Eyad Qadri, Tehsildar Tangmarg, worked in close coordination with Faizan Ali, SDPO Tangmarg, along with SHO Gulmarg and SHO Tangmarg, to manage and clear the traffic mess.
Officials were seen personally monitoring the situation at multiple choke points, regulating vehicle movement, assisting stranded tourists, and ensuring smooth evacuation from vulnerable stretches. The joint operation focused on clearing stranded vehicles, preventing further congestion, and restoring normalcy on priority routes.
Authorities stated that the sudden snowfall caught many drivers off guard, especially tourist vehicles unfamiliar with hill and snow conditions, leading to long traffic jams stretching across Gulmarg and Tangmarg roads.
The administration has urged tourists and commuters to strictly follow advisories, avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather, and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed on duty. Further measures, including controlled vehicle movement, are being considered to prevent a recurrence of such situations.
The timely intervention by the civil administration and police has brought much-needed relief to stranded commuters, though officials continue to remain on alert as weather conditions remain unpredictable.
