Tourism Department Seeks Urgent Feasibility Reports on Public Demands Ahead of Budget 2026-27

Gulmarg MLA Farooq Ahmad Shah Pushes Major Tourism Projects in Baramulla

Srinagar, May 16:

The Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir has issued an urgent communication directing tourism officials across Kashmir to examine and submit feasibility reports on public demands and developmental priorities raised by elected representatives for the Budget 2026-27.

As per the official communication issued by the Deputy Director Tourism (Planning), Assistant Directors and Resort Officers of Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Headquarters have been asked to furnish action plans within three days regarding tourism-related proposals submitted by MPs and MLAs.

Among the key proposals, major tourism projects recommended by Gulmarg MLA Farooq Ahmad Shah for Baramulla district have drawn attention, particularly those aimed at boosting rural and agro-tourism in the region.

According to the list of priority works, Farooq Ahmad Shah has proposed:

Development of Shari-Baderkote-Gogaldara Tourism Circuit

Development of Tangmarg-Batoo-Warpora Agri/Rural Tourism Circuit

The proposals are aimed at expanding tourism beyond Gulmarg and creating new destinations in rural Baramulla. The planned circuits are expected to promote local employment, strengthen village economies and attract tourists towards unexplored areas of Tangmarg and adjoining regions.

The Tourism Department has been asked to assess the feasibility, infrastructure requirements and execution plans for these projects before submission to the Administrative Department for consideration in the upcoming budget.

Officials said the move reflects the Government’s focus on decentralising tourism and promoting sustainable tourism infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir.

The official list also includes eco-tourism parks, wetland tourism, water sports facilities and beautification projects across several districts including Bandipora, Kupwara, Shopian and Anantnag.

The communication states that the matter should be treated as “Most Urgent,” indicating that the proposed projects may find place in the Budget 2026-27 planning process after technical evaluation and approval.
